Hawaii Fire Department operates under the direction, leadership, and operational supervision of  Mayor Harry Kim of the County of Hawaii.  The mayor appoints the Fire Commissioners from each of the nine districts of the County of Hawaii.  These commissioners through a selection process elects the Fire Chief.  Once appointed the Fire Commissioners oversees the Fire Chief's progress of the fire departments present and future activities.
